Fin Capital's Monthly Wave: May Edition 👋
Our roundup of resources from the team, portfolio news, and more.

Welcome to the May installment of Fin Capital's Monthly Wave. It’s been a busy month for the team and our portfolio companies.

Read below for a snapshot of our thoughts on current market conditions, emerging trends, key industry insights, and more
AI Charts a Safe Course by Defending Seniors from Check Scams: Carefull has recently announced the launch of ScamCheck, which uses LLMs to review suspicious content and identify scam patterns. ScamCheck then provides a clear explanation of the reasoning behind the decision and offers users a simple, step-by-step guidance on what to do next. This detection product is timely, as Jack Henry recently predicted the rise of fraudulent checks throughout 2025 as AI-generated forgeries have increasingly been able to bypass traditional verification systems.
The Rising Tide of Agentic Payment Streams: In the past four weeks, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and Coinbase have all made announcements around new agentic payment products and features. Weather they enable autonomous commerce or payment for task completion, all these solutions leverage authentication to confirm the AI agent is authorized to act on behalf of a specific consumer, tokenization to replace card data with network tokens that protect sensitive details, and payment instructions that set guardrails around limits, locations, MCCs, etc. We believe that adoption of this new online payment method will require merchant enablement such as APIs to expose pricing and inventory, new compliance and liability frameworks, as well as sub-cent billing mechanisms.
Continued Waves of Cyber Threats: On May 15th, Coinbase said that the firm had been recently infiltrated by "criminals" who used cash rewards to get Coinbase customer support agents outside the US to send them customer data. The scammers intended to use the data to pose as Coinbase itself and trick users into sending their crypto assets. Not only should Coinbase have conducted stricter background checks on employees, but it should also have more robust access monitoring and access intelligence to create real time alerts on suspicious employee activity. Companies like Netomi, which uses agentic AI within customer service to enhance security by identifying and deflecting unsafe inputs, misuse, and prompt injection attempts in real time, is helping enterprises stay ahead of evolving threats and minimize exposure to new attack vectors. To learn more about how other large enterprises are addressing cyber threats, specifically within identity & endpoint security, join our upcoming Virtual Demo Day with Axio, Hypori, GeoComply, and Strata, taking place this afternoon at 11AM PT / 2PM ET.
